The annual Royal Gorge Film Festival invites audiences, artists, and filmmakers to Cañon City for a celebration of cinema. This weekend of community, history, and storytelling takes place on Valentine’s Day Weekend in mid-February.
This year’s Royal Gorge Film Festival takes place from TBD 2027 (last event: Friday to Sunday, February 13th to 15th, 2026). Most screenings are suitable for families, though some are for mature audiences.
The Royal Gorge Film Festival shows everything from modern indie films to classic Westerns. It honors the past while embracing the future. The film screenings take place at the historic Skyline Theatre in downtown Cañon City.
Fremont County encompasses a unique Western setting, known locally as the Royal Gorge Region. The area had a popular stint in the film industry as a location for many films, most notably Westerns. More than 30 John Wayne films were filmed around Cañon City.
