Tucked in between and to the south of Durango and Pagosa Springs, lies the region’s only commercial vineyard and winery. Fox Fire Farms operates a 910 acre livestock farm in La Plata County.
Their tasting room set on their large ranch makes the perfect setting for sipping on a glass of vino. It’s a prime choice for your special event, whether it’s a birthday or bachelorette party. Guests are welcome Thursday to Sunday from 1 to 6pm, between from May 15th and October 31st, before the winery closes its doors for the season.
Wine Tastings and Tours
Their local grapes are among the highest grown in the country, at an elevation of 6500 feet above level. They are one of few Western U.S. wineries both growing and making wine with cold climate hybrid varieties, including Marquette, Traminette, Brianna, Vignoles, Corot Noir and Petite Pearl.
Their grapes have been bred to withstand the low temperatures of a Colorado night, allowing them to make delicious homegrown wines in La Plata County. Their wines are affordably priced, though not cheap.
