The Spanish Peaks Arts Council is the artistic epicenter for the Spanish Peaks region of southern Colorado. Dedicated to promoting art and art education, this La Veta, CO nonprofit organization is owned by its members.
It’s home to two galleries, a workspace, and a gift shop. Local artists’ work is rotated monthly, so there is always something new to see.
Exhibits
Two gallery spaces showcase the work of Colorado artists. Gallery exhibits are open to all styles of art and change regularly throughout the year. Examples of work you might find in the galleries include:
- Oil and acrylic paintings
- Sketches and drawings
- Photographs
- Ceramics
- Jewelry
Every exhibition presented by the Arts Council is totally unique. The Council welcomes both new and traditional formats, and every artist who presents earns a place in the gift shop. Everything you see is always for sale and supports the artists as well as the Council.
Workshops and Events
Educational workshops and events are held throughout the year for both children and adults. Popular happenings include:
Children’s Art Workshop—Children 5-12 get to experience what it’s like creating a piece of art with the help of a professional artist, in this week-long event.
Art in the Park Festival—An annual event with no admission fees, always held the weekend closest to July 4th. Enjoy music, food, and plenty of art.
Studio and Gallery Tour—Have fun on this annual guided tour of the galleries and studios where professional artists work and exhibit.
Annual events are popular and tend to draw large crowds. It’s best to plan ahead.
