Steamboat Springs’ alpine slide was the longest coaster in North America. It stretched 6,280 linear feet down Steamboat Ski Resort.
The Outlaw Mountain Coaster was a year-round attraction and was situated next to the Christie Peak Express lift. It opened for the first time during the 2017-2018 ski season and operated during both the winter and summer seasons.
Alpine Coaster at Steamboat Ski Resort
Summer or winter you could race down 400 vertical feet of Steamboat Ski Resort. The elevated track reached 40 feet over the ground at its highest, ensuring a thrilling ride. There were numerous sharp curves, rolling d,ips and steep declines, as well as 360-degree circles.
From beginning to end, the adventure lasted around 10 minutes to complete. Times varied depending on the speed of the driver, which can reach up to 27 miles per hour.
Tickets could be purchased at the Lift Ticket Office or the Adventure Depot next to the Christie Peak Express chairlift. Pricing was per person (driver or passenger different) per ride, with a discount for two or more rides.
Requirements
Two people could ride on each sled, and both had to have full body control, capable of staying sat for the full trip. It was up to the driver to maintain a safe distance, at least 80 feet in dry, 160 feet in wet/night conditions, between sleds, by using the manual brake. The total combined weight between driver and passenger could not exceed 375 lbs in dry conditions and 330 lbs in wet conditions.
Driver – 54-84 inches tall; must be 16 years or older
Passenger – at least 38 inches tall and shorter than the driver; 3 years or older; 45-187 lbs
