The Avon Whitewater Park offers a chance for freestyle kayaking on the Eagle River. It features a 350-foot section of whitewater, directly under “Bob the Bridge”. Based on the bridge above, the park’s three features are nicknamed Baby Bob, Bob Jr, and Bob Sr. All levels of paddlers will find opportunities here.
The park was built in 2006 using natural boulders and natural-looking pre-cast structures. The features’ design makes them perform optimally at different water levels, ensuring great kayaking through the summer. The playpark is situated just south of the town center on Avon Road. Parking is available at Beaver Creek’s Elk Lot on Highway 6.
Cold weather gear, helmets, and life vests are encouraged. You can take kayak and water safety lessons in the Avon Recreation Center, at an indoor pool. Eagle River whitewater rafting can also be found along this river, in sections above and below the park. Classes range from III-IV. Great fishing can be found at the park when the kayaking season is over in late September.
