Note that Peak Mountain Guides is no longer operating. They were purchased by Mountain Trip based out of Telluride, who will continue to offer guided climbing in Southwest Colorado.
Peak Mountain Guides offered a variety of guided outdoor adventures, including rock climbing, ice climbing, and backcountry skiing. It was headquartered in the scenic San Juan Mountain town of Ouray.
Rock Climbing
Year-round guided trips were available in Boulder, Red Rocks, Colorado National Monument, and Black Canyon of the Gunnison, as well as Moab, Utah, and Red Rocks, Nevada. All guides were AMGA Certified for a safe and memorable experience. All skill levels were able to find a climb suitable for them and lessons appropriate.
Ice Climbing
Certified guides and instruction were provided for all levels, including intro to ice climbing, intermediate and advanced ice climbing seminars, in addition to private and women’s ice climbing courses. You could climb up the Ouray Ice Park or take to the backcountry around Ouray, Silverton, and Telluride.
Alpine
Guided alpine trips were custom designed for you. Trips to Bolivia, North Cascades, Mt. Rainier, and the San Juan Mountains were offered. A Ski Mountaineering Course was featured at Mount Sneffels, between Ouray and Telluride, as well as in Alaska. Courses included Intro to Alpine Climbing Course, Companion Rescue Clinics, Hut Based Avalanche, Intro to Backcountry Skiing & Snowboarding, and AIARE Level 1 & 2 Avalanche.
Ski & Avalanche
A variety of small group, avalanche courses, ski mountaineering courses, and privately guided trips were led by AIARE and AMGA-certified instructors. You could go on guided backcountry skiing in the San Juan’s or on an overnight San Juan Hut Skiing Trip.
