Just a glance outside gives a stunning view of the Rockies. Massive, stony giants loom in the distance, and elk meander along the streets just ahead. It’s the perfect place to sit back, enjoy some gourmet cheese, and sip generously on a bottle of red.
A sampling of five wines at the Snowy Peaks Winery in Estes Park, Colorado is affordably priced here, so picking which five to try is going to be the hardest part of your day. (Go for the sweet Riesling!) The best part of your day? Enjoying this experience with your kids.
Doing a wine tasting with your kids? That doesn’t sound like fun. In Estes Park, however, it is.
Hanging With The Kids At The Bar
As your first glass is getting filled, another glass will be set out for all the little people. Their first sample could be cherry, peach, or blackberry juice. The only thing they know for sure is that it tastes fantastic, and their alcohol-free version lets them participate in a very adult activity.
The owners of Snowy Peaks, who are parents themselves, made an amazing space for kids to play and enjoy because parents don’t want to miss out on indulgent experiences just because they are parents. (Actually, they may be that much more important if you are a parent!) This is a bar you won’t mind bringing your kids to.
No Wine-ing Zone
The kids can enjoy some time in the “No Wine-ing Zone” with any number of action figures. They could color a picture for the wall in there or hang out in the bean bag chairs and challenge one another to a rousing game of Candyland while you read and re-read the wine options. (Making your final selections might take some time.) Once you’ve decided between the Merlot and Syrah, everyone can participate.
The Wine Cellar
So now that your little people are all sugared up, they may need a place to get out all the crazy. The owners will be glad to bring you to the basement where they crush the grapes and store the wine in big vats. The big, shiny vats are ideal for a funhouse-type hall of mirrors experience where the kids make all sorts of funny faces and echo-y noises as their reflections look on.
In the very back of the room, the owners store their cases of wine, but all your kids will care about is the ramp that doubles as a slide. Let them go nuts while you learn all about what it takes to be a true Colorado winery.
More To Do In Estes Park
Delicious Colorado wine—although a very important attraction—isn’t the only reason to take a trip to the “gateway to the Rockies”. Spending some time in the Rockies is also a very good reason. Indulge in the stunning views while you walk around and explore the shops downtown or get in on the action at the YMCA of the Rockies where families can have a summer-camp-like experience—and the adults are invited.
The kids will find endless ways to amuse themselves and the adults will find plenty of ways to relax, get active, and enjoy the time spent as a family.
