Multiple activities abound at the Wolford Mountain Area, especially for those interested in vehicle touring. 120 miles of officially sanctioned roads and motorized trails cross the mountain, though restrictions apply. Motor vehicles are limited to authorized areas, and certain routes only allow select vehicles. Easy-to-spot signs indicate permissible vehicles.

Cretaceous Ammonite Locality
About 13 miles north of Kremmling lies the Cretaceous Ammonite Locality, where thousands of fossils from over 100 prehistoric invertebrates have been discovered. The site is overseen by the Bureau of Land Management, and visitors are welcome to explore the rich history of this area.
Search for ammonites and other extinct sea creatures as you walk across this land, once covered in hundreds of feet of water. Paleontologists theorize that millions of years ago, the Kremmling Cretaceous Ammonite Locality was the mating ground for these prehistoric creatures.
The BLM office on Highway 40 in Kremmling provides visitors with brochures, parking information, and directions to the area. This site is protected, and fossil collection is strictly prohibited. Exploring the area is permissible, but any fossils you find, you must put back.

If you’re entering through the northern part of the Wolford Mountain Area, take Highway 40 past the Wolford Reservoir and look for Antelope Pass Road. It will be on your right. Take it, and it will lead you into the area.
