Climax, Colorado

Climax Mine Colorado

Despite its funny sounding name, Climax is nearly a ghost town, located just northwest of Leadville toward Copper Mountain. Nothing is remaining except the current active mine, which keeps the town’s un-deserted status alive.

All that’s left of the town is the Climax Molybdenum mine, which leads the world in molybdenum technology. At one time it produced 3/4 of the world’s molybdenum, a mineral used in hardening steel.

There are no homes or other commercial businesses in town, only the mine. All of the original remaining houses were moved to Leadville. Learn more about Climax’s history. The “town” was one of the highest at 11,318 feet above sea level.
