Great Escape Mustang Sanctuary provides a safe and happy home for wild mustangs and burros. It’s located in Deer Trail, a tiny plains town just southeast of Denver. They aim to educate the public about mustangs and burros, collaborating to support and train these beautiful, wild animals.
Most of the animals are up for adoption. Spend a few hours or an entire day visiting the Great Escape Mustang Sanctuary.
Mustang Sanctuary Tour
A typical visit involves a tour around the sanctuary and plenty of time with Ambassador Burros and Mustangs. You’ll head out to the pastures to witness the wild herds. Tours are offered year-round and advanced purchase and reservation is required for tours. All proceeds go to the horses.
Each first Saturday of every month they host an open house and adoption day. Other unique events include a Summer Horsemanship Clinic Series and Poker Ride for GEMS. You can view the full calendar online. Great Escape Mustang Sanctuary also offers 10 tiny overnight eco-cabins as part of the Escape on the Range.
