Two levels of fun, adventure, and knowledge await. Both permanent and changing exhibits create an exciting environment that offers something new on every visit. Popular exhibits include:
Reilly Family Gallery – Innovative, interactive exhibits that change throughout the year. There’s always something new to see.
Sensations – This multi-sensory exhibit uses technology to create an exciting experience filled with lights, sounds, and videos.
El Pomar Magic Carpet Theater – Children are encouraged to create and star in their own theatrical production. Or they can sit back, relax, and watch a cutting-edge projection.
Artrageous Studio – Step into this arts and crafts studio, and create a one-of-a-kind craft to take home. Parents and guardians are welcome to participate.
Buell Baby Barn – The barnyard comes alive in this fun, interactive exhibit designed for children 4 and under.
If you get hungry while you’re there, a small café offers food and drinks at reasonable prices.
History
The Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center opened its doors in 1972, but the Buell Children’s Museum was not a part of the original structure. A 1982 expansion added a small, interactive play area designed for children which served as a precursor to the museum.
It was not until 2000, with the addition of 12,000 square feet, that the Buell Children’s Museum was built. Today, it has won several awards and was recognized by Child Magazine as the number two children’s art and culture museum in the country.
