Buell Children’s Museum – Pueblo

FacebookTwitter

The Buell Children’s Museum is housed inside the award-winning Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center in Pueblo, Colorado. Inside the Children’s Museum you’ll find interactive exhibits created to educate children and adults on art, history, and science.

Innovative designs, hands-on exhibits, and lots of open space create a welcoming environment for kids and kids-at-heart to seek out adventure and make new discoveries. This is the perfect family-friendly venue.

Two levels of fun, adventure, and knowledge await. Both permanent and changing exhibits create an exciting environment that offers something new on every visit. Popular exhibits include:

Reilly Family Gallery – Innovative, interactive exhibits that change throughout the year. There’s always something new to see.

Sensations – This multi-sensory exhibit uses technology to create an exciting experience filled with lights, sounds, and videos.

El Pomar Magic Carpet Theater – Children are encouraged to create and star in their own theatrical production. Or they can sit back, relax, and watch a cutting-edge projection.

Artrageous Studio – Step into this arts and crafts studio, and create a one-of-a-kind craft to take home. Parents and guardians are welcome to participate.

Buell Baby Barn – The barnyard comes alive in this fun, interactive exhibit designed for children 4 and under.

If you get hungry while you’re there, a small café offers food and drinks at reasonable prices.

History

The Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center opened its doors in 1972, but the Buell Children’s Museum was not a part of the original structure. A 1982 expansion added a small, interactive play area designed for children which served as a precursor to the museum.

It was not until 2000, with the addition of 12,000 square feet, that the Buell Children’s Museum was built. Today, it has won several awards and was recognized by Child Magazine as the number two children’s art and culture museum in the country.

Admission and Hours

Discounted tickets are available for military with ID, seniors, teachers, and students. Visitors entering the museum one hour prior to closing receive half off.

Free Days – Every other month, the Buell Children’s Museum and Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center offer a free day for all visitors. Free days always fall on a Sunday. General admission fees are waived on free days, and visitors are instead asked to contribute a small donation of whatever they can afford. Donations are not necessary for entry. Check the website for specific dates.

First Friday Art Walk – The Children’s Museum and Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center are participants of Pueblo’s First Friday Art Walks. On select Fridays throughout the year, visitors are invited to view the museum and galleries at no charge. Check the website for dates and times.

Hours – The museum is open Tuesday-Saturday 11 AM – 4 PM, Sunday 12 PM – 4 PM. During summer, the museum is open daily from 10 AM – 5 PM, the day following Memorial Day through the day before Labor Day. It is closed major holidays including:
