Glenwood Springs is a hidden gem of winter recreation, including top notch Nordic ski trails at Sunlight Mountain Resort. A scenic high valley referred to as Babbish Gulch is surrounded by the majestic Williams Peak and Sunlight Mountain.
Intermediate and advanced skiers can begin their adventure at the Old Four Mile Road within proximity to the Sunlight stables. Expect a steady climb as the slope delivers you through Aspen’s thick groves. If you want to go further, enjoy a small mountain stream on Babbish Gulch Trail or walk through Williams Peak’s woods.
Cross country skiing and snowshoeing
Using the trails incurs no cost. Trail maps can be had at the Guest Service Office. The trails eventually lead to Sunlight’s base area where you can put your feet up while enjoying refreshing beverages and delicious food.
Rentals for snowshoe and cross-country skiing equipment are available at the nearby Sunlight Mountain Ski and Bike Shop.
Crabbe Mountain features more than thirty kilometers of Nordic trails. The Embree Loops is five kilometers of well-marked trails ideal for the beginner and intermediates. The eight-kilometer Slippery Mitten Trails is similarly best for beginners with its four loops easily accessible from the Embree.
The twenty-kilometer Backcountry Trails is for experts and intermediate skiers due to its smaller loops and diverse ecosystems consisting of pine trees, lakes, and mature hardwoods.
In addition to downhill and cross country skiing, Sunlight Mountain offers snowmobiling too.
