The Ouray Ice Park is the mecca for ice climbing in Southwest Colorado. It attracts climbers from all over the world to the “Switzerland of America”.
The Ice Park showcases a massive manmade ice wall, located a short walk from downtown Ouray. It features over 200 mixed routes, most within a fifteen-minute walk of the parking area. It’s open daily during the winter season until 4 pm.

You can rent ice climbing gear at shops in town, however, not at the park. The park doesn’t offer guided climbs, classes, or clinics, however, there are local climbing guides in town. Guided ice climbing lessons are available in town through local outfitters, such as the San Juan Mountain Guides, which also instructs rock climbing.
In January, the best international climbs compete at the Ouray Ice Festival. It runs for four days mid-month, featuring a variety of clinics, races, auctions, and parties.
