The Ouray Ice Park is the mecca for ice climbing in Colorado. It attracts climbers from all over the world to the “Switzerland of America”.
The Ice Park showcases a massive manmade ice wall, located a short walk from downtown Ouray. It features over 200 mixed routes, most within a fifteen minute walk of the parking area. It’s open daily until 4pm.

You can rent ice climbing gear at shops in town, however, not at the park. The park doesn’t offer guided climbs, classes, or clinics, however there are local climbing guides in town. Guided ice climbing lessons are available in town through a couple of outfitters, including Peak Mountain Guides and San Juan Mountain Guides. Both of which also instruct rock climbing.
In January, the best international climbs compete at the Ouray Ice Festival. It runs for four days mid month, featuring a variety of clinics, races, auctions and parties.
