[Ouray Ice Park climbing. Photo: Patrick Lewis] The Ouray Ice Park is the mecca for ice climbing in Colorado. It attracts climbers from all over the world to the “Switzerland of America”.
The Ice Park showcases a massive manmade ice wall, located a short walk from downtown Ouray. It features over 200 mixed routes, most within a fifteen minute walk of the parking area.
The park doesn’t offer guided climbs, classes, or clinics, however there are local climbing guides in town. It’s open daily until 4pm. You can rent gear at shops in town, however, not at the park.
In January, the best international climbs compete at the Ouray Ice Festival. It runs for four days mid month, featuring a variety of clinics, races, auctions and parties.
