Walsh, Colorado is a small town of just over 500 residents, hidden away on the southeastern plains, east of Trinidad and Springfield on Highway 160. One of the favorite places to eat and shop in this quaint location is the Walsh Community Grocery Store.
Back in 2006 the town lost its grocery store. With bad storms at the end of 2006 and early 2007, the locals realized they needed a grocery store in Walsh!
“Pulling together we all win.”
Community members got together and got to work. Shares were sold (and still are available), In June of 2007 after months of getting the store cleaned and stocked thanks to AFI and many community volunteers they opened up as Walsh Community Grocery Store.
On June 10th, 2024 they celebrated their 17th anniversary. Some folks said that they wouldn’t make it six months. “We are still here! It has not been easy but we are making it work.”, said Meta Jo Riseling, Store Manager.
Next time you’re passing by Walsh, if ever, stop in at this community-owned and operated small-town market.
