For summer fun in Summit County, tour the site of the Lomax Placer Mine in Breckenridge while trying your luck at gold panning. This former gold mine dates back to the 1860s.
In its heyday in the 1860s, gold pans, sluice boxes, and high-pressure hoses were used to collect minerals. Various mining relics can be seen at the site of the Lomax Placer Mine. It’s a fun activity for the whole family.

Stroll around the historic grounds and watch a gold-panning demonstration. All guests can try their hand at gold panning in the cold creek that runs through the property. You can even keep what you uncover in a complementary vial. However, most guests don’t find any gold flakes.
The Lomax Placer Mine typically opens in June for the season, running through the summer months. Reservations are required, and everyone on the grounds must have a paid reservation. Those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

It’s recommended to wear closed-toe shoes and dress for the cool weather at this elevation of around 9,700 feet.
The Lomax Placer Mine is only a two-minute drive from downtown Breckenridge, which can be walked in fifteen minutes. Free parking is available.
