In April 1968, a group of individuals with common interests in organizing, directing, and acting came together to form the “Picketwire Players” group. Later that year, they put on their first performance, “Laura of the Shadows,” in the La Junta High School auditorium.
By 1977, friends of the Picketwire Players raised funds to create the Picketwire Center to make it a place for the community to enjoy the arts. Over the years, more money was raised for the center, and many investments were made to improve its structure and features.
Today, the Picketwire Center serves as a community performing arts center where auditions for plays take place and other local events.
