Located in South Denver, the Ruby Hill Rail Yard operates during the wintertime as a terrain park for skiers and snowboarders and a sledding area. The City of Denver runs this as an annual park within Ruby Hill Park, a free place for locals to practice and play.
Snow is typically blown in January and lasts for as long as it lasts, hopefully into March. The northeast exposure of the Rail Yard, combined with the high-water content in the man-made snow, helps ensure sledders, skiers, and snowboarders can enjoy the free downhill slope each winter.
Ruby Hill Terrain Park and Sledding Area
There is no chairlift, t-bar, or magic carpet at the Ruby Hill Rail Yard. All riders must hike the hill to have a chance to go down it. The Terrain Park portion offers a wide variety of rails, jumps, and features, ranging in difficulty from beginner to advanced.
There is a designated area for sledders and those avoiding the terrain park.
Ruby Hill Park is located just west of South Platte River Drive, south of West Florida Avenue, and north of West Jewell Avenue. The park is open from 5 am to 11 pm, though the hill is lit until 9 pm.
