Summer in Copper Mountain is the perfect place for adults to feel like a kid again and kids to, well, act like kids, with their wide variety of activities. Ride the Rocky Mountain coaster, ascend the climbing wall, challenge yourself on the WreckTangle obstacle course, or simply rest and relax with a scenic chairlift ride. Whatever you choose, there is sure to be something for everyone.
One of the best ways to experience summer in Copper Mountain is with their Summer Activity Day Pass. The pass includes unlimited bumper boat sessions, a ride on the Rocky Mountain Coaster, one ride on the Go Kart track, unlimited attempts on the climbing wall, two runs on the Woodward WreckTangle, two rides on the Quad Power Jump, two rides on the zip line, and unlimited scenic chairlift rides.
Guests looking to make the most of their day can purchase an Activity Day Pass for $79. A family of four can save over 20 percent with the purchase of a Family Day Pass.
Woodward Copper
Copper Mountain is home to Woodward Copper Barn, an action-packed sports training facility. As the only summer terrain park in Colorado, they offer week-long on-snow camps through August. The facility features multiple skate/scooter/BMX areas, indoor ParkSki™ and Burton ParkBoard™ training, tumble track, five Olympic-grade trampolines, and more.
Biking and Hiking
Biking at Copper Mountain is made easy with the mountain’s bike haul system. Available on the American Eagle and Woodward Express chairlifts, you can send your bike up the mountain with you and ride back down. The mountain offers a variety of terrain ranging from beginner to advanced. View the full map here. Tickets can be purchased for the entire summer or just a full day.
While there aren’t a ton of hiking options, there are a few trails to choose from for your weekend getaway. Segment 8 of the Colorado Trail’s route, a 25.3-mile stretch over Tennessee Pass to Leadville, runs through the center of Copper Mountain.
Another popular route is the Chickaree Way trail. Take the Woodward Express chairlift to the top and from there head west down I-Road to the base of Timberline Express Lift to start the hike. The trail leads back to the West Village, crossing the Colorado Trail.
Summer Programs
In addition to their resort activities, Copper Mountain offers unique programs and experiences throughout the summer as well.
- Ales & Astronomy presented by 10 Barrel Brewing – Spend an evening under the stars and learn about the night sky and its constellations from a local astronomer, all while sipping on cold brews. Dates are usually selected around a main astrological event, such as the Perseid Meteor Showers in August. Your ticket includes a beer tasting, a Yeti tumbler, a 10-barrel Brewing cooler, and a cozy blanket. The cost is $10 and guests can preregister online.
- Mountain Mixology presented by Yeti – Ride up on the mountain via the American Eagle chairlift for a mountain mixology experience. Learn how to make crafty concoctions, complete with freshly foraged ingredients and scenic views. Register online and receive a lift ticket and a Yeti wine tumbler.
Summer Events
Throughout the summer, Copper Mountain also features signature events, such as its disc golf tournament, the Copper Triangle (an alpine cycling event), a golf tournament, and one of its biggest events to hit this September, the inaugural Union Peak Festival.
The event will feature live music, athletic activities, sports demos, unique food and drink, plus works of art. The idea behind the event is to bring together athletes and artists. Live performances from Walk the Moon and Saint Motel will provide the entertainment with an art walk installation to add to the ambiance and acoustic toons. The event runs from September 10 – 12, 2021, with weekend lodging packages available starting at $105 a night.
Weekends are where it’s at on Copper Mountain with the variety of free activities offered. Start your day with free yoga classes in the park, on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. In the evening, catch a live music event at Eagle’s Landing in Center Village with The Copper Live concert series.
Or end your evening with the Mountainside Movie event. Sit mountainside and enjoy adventure and sports-themed movies, like The Replacements, on select summer evenings. Bring your chair or blanket to Jack’s Lawn in Center Village for a free show.
Another free meet-up is offered with 10 Barrel Backcountry Brew Pub where participants can hike, bike, or ride the Woodward Express up to the top of the mountain. Here, reward your efforts with a free drink, food, music, and lawn games, all while taking in the surrounding views.
