Mosca’s Great Sand Dunes Lodge is conveniently located a short drive from Alamosa, plus the stunning Sangre de Cristo Mountains are just outside the door. This hotel is the closest lodging option to the park’s entrance and is perfect for large groups.

The resort’s views include mountain peaks over 14,000 feet high, the Great Sand Dunes, and the beautiful San Luis Valley. Pets are charged on a per-pet, per-night basis, except service animals.

Some of the perks that guests may enjoy are free parking, a spacious patio with gas grills, and in-room microwave. On mornings between 7:30 and 10:00 am, visitors can start their day with a complimentary continental breakfast.

Although the swimming pool has been closed indefinitely, this resort remains a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts who like taking photos, hiking, and stargazing.

Sand sleds and sandboards are available to rent on a first-come, first-served basis so guests can use them down the Great Sand Dunes. The daily rental rate includes the whole day, and you must return the item by 7 pm.

They have 18 spacious rooms with patios and views of the Great Sand Dunes. Rooms have a variety of conveniences, like air conditioning, a coffee maker, a refrigerator, satellite television, and free Wi-Fi. Towels and a tub/shower combination are available in the bathroom, and once-per-stay housekeeping is offered.

  • Standard – Sleeps four, includes two queen beds.
  • Deluxe – Sleeps four, includes a king bed, trundle, and day bed.
  • Deluxe Plus with Kitchen room – Sleeps two to four.
  • Deluxe Plus with Kitchenette – Sleeps two to four.
  • Elegant Camper Suite – Sleeps two to four in an RV camper. Features a queen bed, sofa bed, and a table bed. Includes full kitchen and walk-in shower.

The closest nearby eatery is Oasis Restaurant, which is not part of the Lodge. Keep in mind the restaurant is closed throughout March, April, October, and the first few days of May. September hours are shorter than usual. There’s also a convenience store there.

There is a campground and four cottages for rent at the neighboring Great Sand Dunes Oasis. The former is open from April through October and the latter from May through September.
