The hotel used to be two Seventh Street properties – the Denver House and the Star Hotel. Eventually, the two buildings merged to become the boutique Hotel Denver, which is now Hotel Maxwell Anderson. 2015 marked the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Star Hotel.

The “Maxwell Anderson” name is meant to be a fictional train conductor from Glenwood Springs’ mining heyday of the early 1900s.

Back in the day, Hotel Denver provided a place for visitors, businessmen, and miners a place to stay whenever the train brought them to that side of the town. Hotel Maxwell Anderson still welcomes Amtrak Rail visitors and continues to be a vibrant part of the town’s culture. The hotel under its several names has provided jobs and lodging for locals and visitors for more than a century.
