The “Maxwell Anderson” name is meant to be a fictional train conductor from Glenwood Springs’ mining heyday of the early 1900s.
Back in the day, Hotel Denver provided a place for visitors, businessmen, and miners a place to stay whenever the train brought them to that side of the town. Hotel Maxwell Anderson still welcomes Amtrak Rail visitors and continues to be a vibrant part of the town’s culture.
