Jackson’s Honest – Crested Bute

Jackson's Honest Crested Butte Colorado

Eating potato chips is probably one of life’s simplest pleasures, but all the fun is sort of lost once you’ve downed a whole pack – but not with one from Jackson’s Honest, as they make cheating less guilting.

A company founded with a mission to nourish the world one pack at a time, Jackson’s Honest was established in 2012 in honor of its founders’ son, Jackson.

A few months after his first birthday Jackson started exhibiting symptoms of an unknown auto-immune disease, which presents itself through various severe physical and mental handicaps. Their son’s condition continued to worsen as he grew.

Still having had no diagnosis about their son’s condition, Megan and Scott Reamer thought that they should be able to at least do something to alleviate one of their son’s source of suffering, which was digestive discomfort.

With the help of a cookbook, the two started feeding Jackson, then weighing 17 pounds at 3 ½ years old, with a meat-based, nutrient-dense, and high good fat diet. Their efforts seemed to pay off, as Jackson’s condition somehow improved. Jackson went on to live, but sadly and unexpectedly passed away some 3 months after his 16th birthday.

That journey led the founders to the discovery that traditional good fats, such as coconut oil, is still far healthier than most refined fats available today. They started incorporating healthy fats in most of their meals, and even experimented with frying potato chips in 100% organic coconut oil.

They started to share it only to friends and family at first, and was dismissing the idea of turning it into a business. But they thought, if their son benefited from it, then it could be beneficial to other people as well.

Currently headquartered in Crested Butte, Jackson’s Honest’s idea is not to compete, but only to provide better food. Their chips are totally different than most regular snacks, as theirs are cooked in healthy and real fats that naturally occur in nature.

The company also uses organic potatoes sourced from small-scale farmers, and other GMO-free foods to ensure they are introducing only the healthiest snacks to the public. Even their snack bags are all USA-made.
