American Mountaineering Museum opened in 2008 and is said to be the first and only museum dedicated to mountaineering. The museum aims to preserve and exhibit the heroism, technology, culture and spirit of mountaineering.
It’s located in the Old West town of Golden. You can visit the museum year round.
There are exhibits on climate, cultures, science and humanities as they relate mountaineering. The museum is in honor of Bradford Washburn who first climbed Mt. Washington at the age of 11 in 1921.
Lectures are hosted from time-to-time at the museum, in addition to events and changing exhibits.
