Denver Barbarians are one of Colorado’s rugby union teams. They were founded in 1967 as the Barbos, celebrating 50 years of competition in 2017. Their colors are green and white.
They play at several locations around Denver, including Infinity Park in Glendale and Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City. Over their 50+ years they have competed at many different levels in several different leagues. They won 3 national championships, including their first D1 title in 1990. During the peak of the Rugby Super League (RSL) they won again in 1999. The Denver Barbarians were the 2018 DII USA Rugby Men’s National Champions.
Today there are over 60+ players in their club, which fields teams in three different leagues and levels:
- Men’s Premiership
- Men’s Challenge League
- Men’s National 7s
The Barbos support youth rugby through a partnership with the Denver Lions. They also host clinics and provide coaches for high school and college level rugby. They sponsor many charitable events throughout the Denver area as well.
There are many other Colorado rugby club teams including Boulder RFC and the Denver Highlanders. You can find hte list of Men’s clubs on Rocky Mountain Rugby. The Colorado Raptors are a local professional rugby team, competing in the Major League Rugby (MLR) at Infinity Park in Glendale.
