South Republican (Bonny Lake) SWA – Idalia

Bonny Lake State Wildlife Area
Former marina at Bonny Lake State Wildlife Area.

Bonny Lake is a former state park, which is now a state wildlife area, called South Republican. It lies near the eastern edge of Colorado, by the South Republican River. The visitor center is closed for good, the lake has dried up to nearly a mud-hole, and the area is now used primarily for hunting. The 13,000-acre area offers deer, turkey, waterfowl, and small game hunting.

Activities at South Republican SWA

Boating/Fishing: No water, just a dry hole

Camping: Yes, but primitive. Wagon Wheel and Foster Grove Campground have closed, but North Cove and East Beach are open with no camping fees, electricity, or water.

Hunting: Open to small and big game from the day after Labor Day to the Friday before Memorial Day. Species include deer, turkey, waterfowl, dove, pheasant, quail, rabbit, and squirrel. See map for details.
