The Colorado Chautauqua Cottages & Lodges are a delightful group of historic accommodations tucked away behind the Flatiron Mountains, approximately a mile from the center of Boulder. Regarding National Historic landmarks in Colorado, Chautauqua is one of just two that also offer public overnight lodging.
Amenities
The property’s best feature is the many options for outdoor activities and the availability of picnic areas and barbecue grills. There are 40 miles of paths in all directions, with varying degrees of difficulty, and in many cases, hikers may even bring their dogs along.
Plenty of sports fields, a children’s play area, an auditorium, and free social events are also available on-site. In the general store, you can buy locally roasted coffee while you look for souvenirs and tasty homemade ice cream.
You can also visit the Chautauqua Dining Hall all year long for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It’s open daily from 8 am to 9 pm within the park.
Lodging & Rooms
Tents were replaced by the cottages, which were built between 1899 and 1954, during Chautauqua’s inaugural summer season. If you’re looking for a communal vacation with other visitors, consider staying at the Missions House or the Columbine Lodge. Studio apartments, one-bedroom cottages, and larger cabins with multiple bedrooms are also available.
The best prices of the year can be found if you can visit during the winter. Free parking and Wi-Fi are available to guests. Accommodations include everything you need to make your meals, such as complete or mini-kitchens, all the necessary cooking tools, complimentary coffee, a microwave, and even pet-friendly options. There are toiletries and a hairdryer in the bathroom.
You may choose from a wide variety of room types, including:
Studios – The studio cottage is the perfect place for a relaxing break for two or a quiet retreat for one. Nap outside in the cool air on the porch, or prepare a meal in the fully-equipped kitchen. Both pet-friendly and non-pet-friendly rooms are on offer.
One Bedroom – Cottages with one bedroom are ideal for business travelers, couples, and small families. Extra visitors may use the couch bed provided. Prepare dinner in the fully equipped kitchen, then enjoy it in the comfortably furnished living room or out on the screened porch. There are also pet-free rooms available in this lodging type.
Two Bedroom – The two-bedroom cottages are perfect for hosting a small group of friends or a family. These cabins have a living area, complete kitchen, and screened porch. Both pet-friendly and non-pet-friendly rooms are on offer.
Three Bedroom – Cottages with three bedrooms are perfect for hosting guests for gatherings like weddings or family trips. There is a fully equipped kitchen in these accommodations. There is ample space for guests to spread out and relax in the living area or on the screened porch. There are both pet-friendly and non-pet-friendly options.
Mary H. Galey Cottage – Built in 1925, the Mary H. Galey Cottage was built by a local architect and boasts incredible views. This historic home has a spacious open floor plan and is perfect for groups of up to 40 guests. Pets are not allowed in these accommodations, and it is equipped with vintage furniture, a large kitchen, a baby grand piano, a big dining room, and a surround sound audio system.
Columbine Lodge – Soon after World War I ended, in 1919, construction began on Columbine Lodge to accommodate the needs of auto visitors who preferred short-term lodging in Chautauqua. Now, the Columbine Lodge provides pet-free apartment-style studios. Guests may walk out their door and onto the more than 40 miles of open space paths surrounding the complex.
Missions House – The Missions House Lodge was originally built in 1911 to serve as a dormitory for female students of the Rocky Mountain School of Missions. Today, it serves as a unique venue for family gatherings and business retreats. The lodge has eight guest rooms, a full kitchen, a screened porch, and a stunning great room with a stone gas fireplace that can accommodate 16 guests. Missions House does not allow pets and may accommodate up to 35 people for dinner parties.
