Endless snow tubing fun awaits you at Keystone Ski Resort. Home to two of Colorado’s tubing hills: Mountaintop and a family-friendly option at the Nordic Center. The one atop Dercum Mountain has a state-of-the-art conveyor lift and is lighted for night tubing.
This is the perfect winter activity for everyone in the family and anyone who wants a low-stress way to ride down the hill. Because of the high elevation of Keystone’s Mountaintop hill, you can even go snow tubing in the summer!
Mountaintop Snow Tubing at Keystone
Keystone’s tubing hill is perched on the summit of Dercum Mountain. Check-in for your reservation at the Adventure Point Tubing Hut at the bottom of the gondola about 45 before your slotted time. From there, take the River Run Gondola up to the village. It will drop you off next to Adventure Point, where the tubing hill is.
You can also stop by the Keystone Snow Fort on the way if you have some time to kill, you’ll walk by it at the top of the gondola. It’s the world’s largest snow fort! If you need a snack before you hit the hills, Summit House is nearby for quick bites and drinks.
Requirements
Participants must be 42 inches tall and at least 4 years of age. Riders must be able to walk and stand on the lift carpet, and cannot ride in a tube with anyone else. Pregnant women and anyone over 350 pounds are not permitted. Reservations are strongly encouraged.
Summer Tubing
Because of the high elevation of the Keystone and Dercum Mountain, the snow sticks around well into the summer months. As the only operating tubing hill in the state with real snow in the summer, this is a unique way for the whole family to cool off.
Similar to the wintertime, reservation check-in is about 40 minutes beforehand at the Mountain Services Center. The hill is only open from 10am until 2pm each day, and the season is fully dependent on the quality of the snow. Tubers must be 42 inches tall and have closed-toe shoes in order to ride.
Nordic Center Snow Tubing
If you don’t want to make the trek to the top of Dercum on the gondola, check out the Nordic Center tubing hill. Located between Dillon Lake and the ski resort, the Nordic Center is a calmer alternative to the busy mountain.
If you have little ones that are too young for the Mountaintop hill but still want to tube, this is the solution. The family-friendly tubing hill is shorter and less steep, and there is no lift to get you back to the top. You’ll have to get up and down the old-fashioned way: with your own two feet. Tube rentals are a bit cheaper here and include unlimited runs.
Nearby Activities
Keystone’s claim to fame is its excellent downhill skiing and snowboarding. Outdoor ice skating is another fun activity available at Keystone Lake and Dercum Square. If you want to explore the winter wonderland in a magical way, consider taking a horse-drawn sleigh ride through Soda Creek Valley.
Tubing doesn’t require any skill and is bound to evoke some laughter. So bundle up, rent a tube, and have a blast as you cruise down either hill at Keystone.
