Dedicated in 1988, Montrose is one of the primary airports serving the Western Slope. It has 11 direct nonstop flights in the winter and 5 over the summer, accessing airports all across the country.
Many winter skiers looking to ride Telluride Ski Resort fly into Montrose instead of Telluride Regional due to a larger number of flights. Telluride is a relatively simple 1.5-hour drive from MTJ, versus over 6 hours from Denver.
There are two runways at Montrose Regional Airport. Running north to south, 17/35 is the longest/widest runway, measuring 10,000 feet by 150 feet. Runway 13/31 is 7,500 feet by 100 feet. Both have pilot-controlled high-intensity runway lights.
The Main Terminal opens two hours before the first flight and closes an hour after the last flight lands. It features two locations for Horsefly Brewing, so you can catch a microbrew to calm your nerves pre or post-flight. There’s also a coffee shop with baked goods.
