The Rocky Mountain Coaster at Copper Mountain is Colorado’s premier alpine coaster. Glide over 5,800 feet of tracks as you wind through dense forest, surrounded by fresh mountain air. Feel the sunshine on your shoulders and take in the breathtaking views with your friends and family.

History

Copper Mountain lies about 75 miles outside of Denver, in Summit County, Colorado. A ski resort opened here in 1972 and remains in operation today. Popular sporting events have been held at Copper Mountain since its opening, and its natural beauty has been captured on film.

Its first detachable chairlift, dubbed the American Flyer, was built in 1986 and continues to carry guests up the mountain to this day.

What to Expect

The Rocky Mountain Coaster is an exciting ride through the alpine forests of Copper Mountain where you’ll descend 430 vertical feet. 5,800 feet of tracks make this alone coaster one of the longest in North America. The car speed is controlled by individual drivers and can go up to 25 miles per hour. Children are welcome to ride along, though driver restrictions apply.

In the winter, you can also take on Copper’s tubing hill, or ice skating on the local Copper Mountain West Lake Ice Rink.

Admission and Hours

Tickets are available online and at the Rocky Mountain Coaster Cabin, near the American Flyer lift, and the coaster is only open Friday – Sunday.

  • Friday 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
  • Saturday 10:00 am – 7:30 pm
  • Sunday 10:00 am – 4:30 pm

Hours depend upon the weather and can change frequently so make sure to check before arriving. The Rocky Mountain Coaster is open during both the summer and winter seasons. Tickets are good for one ride only and must be purchased before getting in line. All guests who wish to drive must be at least 52″ tall and 9 years or older. Younger guests may ride along as a passenger.
