Opened in 2000, Mardi Gras Casino is one of the favorites in Black Hawk for its charming castle-like building and variety of gaming. It’s officially called the Golden Mardi Gras Casino after it was acquired by the Golden Casino Group, which also runs Golden Gates and Golden Gulch casinos in town.
The theme of the casino features a New Orleans Cajun vibe, and obviously centered around Mardi Gras. The castle exterior itself exudes a French influence. The casino is connected via an indoor bridge to the Golden Gates Casino, so it’s easy to walk back and forth. Valet and free parking is available at the Golden Gates Casino garage.
Mardi Gras is surrounded by Black Hawk’s largest casinos, including Ameristar and The Lodge. It’s also massive itself, with a well laid out gaming floor. Enjoy a myriad of electronic gambling, from video poker to video slots. Table games are in abundance, with up to 14 blackjack tables going at once. There’s also 2 tables for craps, a roulette table and live poker.
The best selection of food, out of the Golden Casino Group’s three casinos, is at Mardi Gras. The signature Bourbon Street Cafe serves up southern specialities for lunch and dinner, Sunday to Thursday from 11am to 8pm and Friday to Saturday from 11am to 11pm. Try the shrimp beignets or homemade gumbo!
If you’re here early, grab breakfast at the Creekside Deli from 9am to 11am daily. After that lunch and dinner is served until 8pm Sunday to Thursday and 10pm on weekends. They use Boar’s Head premium deli meats in their sandwiches. Or go Creole and try the jambalaya.
To unwind with a libation at Mardi Gras, there are two choices open 24/7. The vibrant Jester’s Bar showcases a nice selection of bottled and drafts beers, as well as wine and premium drinks. Another hot spot is the Masquerade Bar, which is dubbed “trés magnifique.” Whatever you’re in the mood for drink-wise, they can probably serve it up.
