The 970 region of Colorado, which stretches from parts of the plains to the western slope, is getting a new area code, 748. Launched on July 7, 2025, people who apply for a new 970 number may instead get this 748 area code.
The 748 area code will overlap the 970 section. This far-reaching region spans from the northeast corner of the plains to the northwest of the state, and down to the southwest corner. Some of the cities included in the 748/970 section include Telluride, Grand Junction, Steamboat Springs, Vail, Breckenridge, Fort Collins, and Greeley.

The 748 area code became available this week; however, it will begin rolling out in mass once the current lineup of 970 numbers is exhausted. It’s estimated this happens in the first half of 2026. The new 3-digit code is expected to last for 38 years. This brings the total number of Colorado area codes to 6.
Prior to the 748 being introduced, the last Colorado area code added was 983, which joined the 303/720 zone in 2022.
