Cross-country ski in one of Southwest Colorado’s most scenic locations, Vallecito Lake. The ski trails are open to the public throughout the winter and are free to use, donations are accepted at the trailhead.
The Vallecito Lake Nordic Club is a volunteer organization, which grooms and manages the trails at the famous Bayfield lake. Trails are open to all non-motorized forms of recreation, including Nordic skiing and snowshoeing. It’s even dog friendly!

Rental and cross country ski gear for purchase are available in town in Durango: Backcountry Experience, Pine Needle Mountaineering, and 2nd Ave Sports. Events are held throughout the season, including races and an annual ski swap in January. Vallecito Lake is open to recreation year-round.
