Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountains in Granby is a hidden gem for hikers, campers, and outdoor enthusiasts, showcasing breathtaking scenery, rushing water, and miles of trails. This award-winning campground is ideal for families, friends, solo travelers, and couples looking to get away to the great outdoors.

The Rocky Mountain National Park, Lake Granby, and the Colorado River are all within a short distance of Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountains, and the resort is pleased to provide access to all three. In the winter, you can go snowmobiling, ice fishing, or cross-country skiing; in the summer, you can go hiking, biking, boating, and fishing in the local public areas.

Amenities and Dining

Free WiFi, a gym, and a rooftop patio are just a few of the main features. You can also check out the outdoor theater, mini-golf course, mini-bowling, swimming pool, and Apex Arcade, all available on-site. Families with kids traveling will enjoy the playground, jumping pillow, and many sports courts including tennis and sand volleyball.

Eat at one of the following on-site restaurants and then take a trek on nearby trails.

Dining

There are two on-site restaurants at Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountains. The Summit Bar & Grill is the year-round option, serving up American grill fare and a plethora of tap beer. It’s a sports bar atmosphere with TVs and makes an excellent place to chill out after a long hike or a game of mini golf, tennis, or volleyball.

The other option is the seasonal Headwaters Tavern. This casual eatery opens in May and has all your favorite appetizers and entrees. It also boasts a full bar and incredible views from its many windows. Sunday brunch is offered as well.

Camping

Camping and glamping enthusiasts may choose from a wide variety of RV sites, tent sites, and vacation homes in the Rocky Mountains.

RV Camping

All RV sites have full hookups, including water, sewage, and electricity (30 or 50 amps). All sites come with complimentary cable, WiFi, and up to 50 feet of room on a crushed granite or concrete pad. Seasonal amenities include a picnic table and fire pit. There are several of each type:

  • Premium pull-through (83)

Tent Camping

Choose from one of 25 tent sites, each with its own fire pit and picnic table, and spend a night beneath the Colorado stars. There are many water stations spread out around the tent camping area. The convenience store on Headwaters Boulevard is close by and has showers, bathrooms, and a laundry room.

Tents only are allowed on designated tent sites. RV campground reservations are required for conversion vans.

Lodging

The Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountains location has several unique glamping accommodations to choose from:

Airstreams (8) – These lodgings fit between four and six guests. Each rental has a kitchen, shower, and furniture, allowing you to enjoy the outdoors comfortably. In addition to the inside amenities, the outside space has a fire pit and a concrete patio. These are pet-free rentals.

Alpine Retreats (5) – The Alpine Retreats each offer three bedrooms and two bathrooms within 1,800 square feet of space. Perfect for large families or groups of friends traveling together, these villas can sleep six to eight people. They have a complete kitchen, a fire pit (seasonal), a grill (seasonal), a washing machine and dryer, and a vast living space with a separate master bedroom. These units are privately owned and pet-free.

Arrowhead Studios (21) – These four-person studios are pet-friendly and include a kitchenette, microwave, coffee maker, and refrigerator. They include a king-size bed and a full-sized couch bed, and their open layout makes them ideal for families. Each accommodation has a private bathroom with a walk-in shower, heating/cooling, bedding, and WiFi. Outside, you’ll find a porch, a seasonal picnic table, and a fire pit (seasonal).

Bearclaw Cabin 2 Bedroom (39) – Bearclaw cabins are large and pleasant, with two bedrooms and sleeping space for up to six visitors. A queen-size bed can be found in the primary bedroom, while the second bedroom has a bunk bed with two full beds and a full-size sofa bed in the living room.

All rooms have a private bathroom with a walk-in shower, free WiFi, a TV, and heating or air conditioning. There is a complete kitchen, a small dining space, and a covered porch with a seasonal picnic table and fire pit.

Conestoga Wagon (7) – These seasonal-themed luxury wagons fit either two adults or two adults with up to two kids and are all pet-free lodgings. They combine traditional Western aesthetics with some 21st-century comforts. In addition to the high-quality bedding, they provide a table and bench set. Rates are available on a weekly and monthly basis.

Foxtail Studio with Loft (23) – Foxtail Studios are available seasonally, visually stunning, pet-friendly, and have an exceptional open floor concept that can sleep up to six people. Each rental is fully equipped with all the comforts of home, from towels and bed linens to cable TV and WiFi. The kitchenette is furnished with a microwave, mini-fridge, and coffee machine. Additionally, there is a covered porch, outdoor picnic table, and fire pit.

Lookout Lodge (17) – The Lookout Lodge is an excellent option for a vacation with two families because of its spacious 1,200 square feet. It’s made up of two buildings that can each house four people and have their own bathrooms and kitchens. These units are decorated separately, are pet-free, and have a large patio area with a grill.

Mountain Hideaway (10) – Each Mountain Hideaway is privately owned and includes two bedrooms and two bathrooms,ย  does not allow pets. These 1,450-square-foot units provide a complete kitchen, washers and dryers, and enough living space. There is a fire pit (seasonal) and a gas grill on the terrace of these villas, where you can sit and take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.
