Winding River Resort – Grand Lake

FacebookTwitter

Located in Grand Lake, the Winding River Resort is a family campground with horseback riding, surrounded by Rocky Mountain National Park, the Colorado River, and the Arapahoe National Forest. Spend the night in the great outdoors in style, whether you want to rent a cozy cabin or park your RV in one of the numerous wide campsites.

See all Mother Nature has to offer by hiking, snowmobiling, or taking a horseback ride right in this mountainous camping area. Anglers and boaters enjoy time on the water on three nearby lakes, including Grand Lake.

At the campground, it’s not uncommon to see a square dancing session, and Cowboy Church meets along the river every Sunday. Young people love activities like disc golf and playing on playground equipment. After a day of exploring the Rockies, wind down with a crackling fire at night.

From around the middle of December until about the middle of January, you can book a sleigh ride to get into the holiday spirit. An advance notice of 24 hours is necessary for reservations.

Winter Snowmobile and Summer ATV Rentals

These vehicles require reservations and include helmets and outerwear.

ATVs and snowmobiles are available without a guide at On the Trail Rentals. Get up-to-date information about pricing, trail availability, and bookings via phone or email.

Most of the resort’s lodging and camping options are only open from around Labor Day to the end of September or early October. The property offers many types of overnight accommodations to enjoy a great time outdoors.

RV and Tent Camping

Relax in one of the roomy RV or tent sites and forget about the stresses of everyday life. Access Rocky Mountain National Park and the Arapaho National Forest on horseback from the guest horse campsites, which provide corrals.

There are also bathrooms, showers, and a laundry area for campers. You can buy food, fishing gear, and other camping necessities in the camp store, and in the gift shop, you can purchase western-themed souvenirs and cowboy memorabilia.

Cabins

The four housekeeping cabins are smoke-free and are equipped with a kitchen, bathroom, bedding, and kitchenware. Food, toiletries, and a hair dryer are not provided, so please bring what you need. A two-night minimum is required. Cabin options include:

  • The Nordic – a cedar-sided home that sleeps 8.
  • The Winchester – a hunting lodge that sleeps 6.
  • The Homestead – a comfortable log cabin that sleeps 5.
  • The Trailboss.- a three-bedroom home that sleeps 10.

Lodge Rooms

Two lodge rooms are available, each with its own minifridge, microwave, coffee machine, and private bathroom. Lodge accommodations need a minimum stay of two nights.

  • Larkspur Lodge Room – exuding decor representing the Rocky Mountain atmosphere, this rustic but elegant lodge includes a handcrafted aspen wood queen bed. This room sleeps two people.
  • Trapper Lodge Room – this room boasts the natural, enduring coziness of wood paneling and aspen furniture. This room sleeps up to four people.

Camping Cabins

Camping cabins let you enjoy the great outdoors without having to set up and take down a tent. Each cabin has a bed, heat, and lights, but you’ll need to bring your own appliances and linens. Drinking water is nearby the cottages. Each unit also has its own fire pit and picnic table.

Covered Wagons

Visit the Conestoga Wagon Village for an authentic taste of the Old West. Linens, heat, and power are all provided in each Conestoga wagon. Please remember to bring all the additional necessary camping equipment. There are no pet-friendly wagons.
