The unincorporated community of Howard rests on the banks of the Arkansas River between Salida and Cañon City. Also a census-designated place (CDP), it has had its own post office (zip code 81233) open since 1882.

The small town is located in Fremont County at 7,405 ft. In 2010 there was population of 723 residents. It’s part of the Cañon City Micropolitan Statistical Area. A pioneer by the name of John Howard gave the community its name.

Main Attractions

Sugarbush Campground – This campground is open year-round and also boasts a liquor store. The relaxing vibes will take you away you as you listen to the rush of the Arkansas River. They offer full hook-up RV sites as well as electric tent sites.
