Tucked away in Southeast Colorado near La Junta, Timpas is pretty much a ghost town. There are few homes in the community and several abandoned buildings.
The unincorporated community sits at 4,430 feet on Colorado’s Great Plains. Around 200 people are estimated to be living in the Timpas area.
It’s located in Otero County. There was a post office that ran from 1891 to 1970. Now the La Junta Post Office serves Timpas. Timpas Creek runs nearby.
