Tucked away along the Santa Fe Trail Byway on US-350 twenty miles northwest of Trinidad, CO, Model is a far shot from its heyday during the days of the railroad. It originally got its name Model because it was going to provide inspiration and the base for other seemingly plain towns to follow.
Model has an elevation of 5,617 feet and is part of Las Animas County. While the population has dwindled to a minimum today, there’s still a Model Post Office, which also serves nearby Tyrone and Thatcher. It opened in 1912 and has a zip code of 81059.
