Starkville is one of the last small towns in Colorado on Interstate 25 before New Mexico. It’s just a few miles south of Trinidad at 6,365 feet.
Situated in Las Animas County, Starkville was incorporated in March of 1954. It’s a Statutory Town with a population of only 59 residents in 2010. A local coal mine owner, Albert G. Stark gave the town its name.
