Weston is a minuscule village located on the Highway of Legends Byway about 30 minutes west of Trinidad. The census-designated place (CDP) had a population of only 53 residents in 2020.
The community is unincorporated and resides in Las Animas County, which borders New Mexico in southern Colorado. Several nearby communities share the zip code of 81091. There is a U.S. Post Office in town that has been mailing letters since 1889.
A. J. Weston was a pioneer who was around during the original settlement and gave the town its name. Weston sits in the Purgatoire River Valley, surrounded by wildlife areas at an elevation of 6,880 feet.
Main Attractions
Highway of Legends Scenic and Historic Byway – A great combination of natural scenery and historic importance. Weston is the perfect place to stop along this 82-mile drive that includes views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains.
Bosque del Oso State Wildlife Area – Boasting over 30,000 acres of protected land, Bosque del Oso is the largest state wildlife area in Colorado. There are multiple campsites, and opportunities to fish, hunt, and even horseback ride.

Hiking – There is an 8-mile trail connecting Bosque del Oso to Bingham Canyon that is peaceful for exploring. You also can head east toward Trinidad for many hikes within Trinidad Lake State Park.

Sep – Caveman Music Festival – Gather in the great scenery of southern Colorado for live music performances at Monument Lake Resort. There are typically over 20 artists and bands over the 3-day Labor Day Weekend.
