Aspen Colorado ski instructor Cindy Leuchetenburg embodies the visions of skier Friedl Pfeifer and industrialist Walter Paepcke. Pfeifer dreamed of a world-class ski resort with an elite teaching staff.
Paepcke wanted a community of artists and intellectuals. Cindy Leuchtenburg fulfills both dreams. An accomplished artist, she studied at Wittenberg University and earned her BFA in oil painting. Cindy also studied at Rhode Island School of Design, the Vermont Studio Center and at the Glasgow School of Art in Glasgow, Scotland.
The biannual Roaring Fork Open in Aspen has featured her paintings. As if artist and ski instructor were not enough, Cindy is also the Assistant Editor of the Aspen Academy Newsletter, a training resource for Aspen instructors.
International Recognition
Cindy spent her early 20’s and 30’s traveling the globe, teaching skiing and finding inspiration for her paintings. Having living and worked on four continents, her depth of knowledge evolved from a colorful mélange of experiences and resources. Ski students at Vail in Colorado, Fall Creek in Victoria, Australia and Perisher Blue in Australia have benefited from her expert instruction.
When the lifts stop turning in Aspen, Cindy heads south, and teaches skiing at Portillo Chile. Watch her give her students some unconventional advice about maintaining the flow and finding your rhythm in steep terrain:
Artistry on the Slopes
When she’s on the snow, the slopes become her canvas. As such, she applies the same sense of line, blend and flow to her skiing, and imparts this knowledge to her students. Her sense of skiing as an art form facilitated her entry into Team Diva, Aspen’s synchronized ski team. Watch the team rehearse their powder 8’s.
