Held annually since 2018, the February First Friday Wish Lantern Festival is a community celebration honoring the diverse cultural traditions of Summit County residents. It’s held at the Silverthorne Pavilion over one evening in early February.
Welcome in the Lunar New Year on Friday, February 7th, 2025, from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm, at the Silverthorne Pavilion.
Noche de Candela and Lunar New Year

Both Mexico’s Noche de Candela and the Chinese Lunar New Year traditions make use of wish lanterns. In Silverthorne, they will be floating theirs down the Blue River, next to Silverthorne Pavilion.
These traditions for the search of light occur at a mid-way point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. The darkest days of the year are behind us and well wishes are ushered in for a new year. They aim to bring good fortune for the coming year.
Members of the community can decorate wish lanterns ahead of the 6:45 pm launch at Silverthorne Pavilion. For spectators head to either the Pavilion Bridge or the one north of the Chipotle restaurant. The Blue River Trail is also a wonderful place to see the colorful action.

The Summit County Water Rescue Group will be collecting all the wish lanterns after the float.
Noche De Candela — The Silverthorne Pavilion will have salsa dancing and live music for this tradition.
Lunar New Year – Red Buffalo Coffee & Tea will have a story time and crafts for this tradition.
Parking will be tough to come by, so it’s best to consider walking, riding a bike, carpooling, or taking the Summit Stage, which is free. Those with a reusable First Friday cup get a little discount on beer and wine.
