Located in Nathrop, Colorado, Antero Hot Springs offers three cozy cabins. Each features its private soaking pool filled with natural mineral-rich water. The beautiful resort lies at the base of Mount Princeton in Chalk Creek Canyon.

Private accommodations mean you have all the comforts of home for your relaxing, hot springs getaway. Be sure to book a cabin well in advance here, they’re quite a popular place to experience an unforgettable natural retreat near Buena Vista.

Each cabin comes equipped with a custom hot springs tub just outside the door. Take a rejuvenating soak any time you please, and clothing is always optional due to the private nature of the tubs. Antero hopes to help guests reap the physical and mental benefits of taking a peaceful, solitary soak in the Collegiate Peaks.

Although the water exits the ground at 135°F, pool temperatures vary between 100 and 112°F. Each tub has a cold water valve to regulate the temperature for individualized needs. Flowing from the fault of the Chalk Cliffs, the water is filled with boron, iron, sulfate, silica, sodium, and fluoride among other health-boosting minerals.

Antero sits within San Isabel National Forest in Chaffee County with quick access to Chalk Creek and the larger Arkansas River. Salida and Buena Vista are both nearby mountain towns if you want to find a place to eat or perhaps a souvenir.

Hiking –

  • Access points to both the Colorado and Continental Divide trails are just a short drive from the hot springs, perfect for a day hike.
  • Agnes Vaille trail is an easy 1.2-mile out-and-back that leads you to a rushing waterfall. It requires little effort for a great payoff, and it’s a nice spot to spot wildflowers in the springtime.

Horseback Riding – Just 5 minutes up the county road, Hot Springs Stables offers 1 and 2-hour trail rides, as well as 1/2 and full-day adventures. What better way to explore the beautiful land than on the backcountry trails with a horse?

OHV –

  • Mount Antero trailhead is right down the road and offers a tricky yet rewarding rocky road that ends near the 14er’s summit. A high-clearance 4×4 vehicle is needed. Be aware there are several tight switchbacks and stream crossings to navigate, so only tackle this trail if you’re comfortable with that.
  • 12 miles west of the cabins, the ghost town of St. Elmo is a nice place to wander around before continuing to explore the surrounding area. A popular OHV route is St. Elmo to Tincup Pass, totaling about 12 miles of moderately technical terrain.

Skiing –

  • Monarch Mountain is 45 minutes away by car and has about 800 skiable acres to cruise down. There is a healthy mix of beginner and intermediate trails, as well as a handful of advanced.
  • Vail and the numerous Summit County ski areas are about 1.5 hours from Antero, ideal for a day trip. Spend the day skiing and recover in your private soaking tub once you get home.

Spa Services – Antero’s property is a stone’s throw from Mt. Princeton, where you’ll find a full-service spa. Their offerings include a variety of massage options, private mineral soaks, aromatherapy, and facials. The property also has larger mineral pools and riverside tubs if you want even more hot springs soaking.

Whitewater Rafting – Head about 5 minutes to the east toward US-285 and you’ll come upon numerous rafting outfitters to take you on an adventure through Browns Canyon. There are options for all levels of experience, typically half and full-day trips.
