Established in 1867, Capulin is hidden away in South Central Colorado about 8 miles west of Highway 285. The census designated place (CDP) has a population of 200 in 2010.
It’s located in Conejos County at an elevation of 7,825 feet. There is a Capulin Post Office with a zip code of 81124 in operation since 1881. The town was founded in the 1860s by pioneers from Ojo Caliente, New Mexico. The term “capulin” is a type of black cherry.
