Lone Tree, Colorado

Lone Tree is a south Denver suburb, tucked just off I-25 in between Littleton and Parker. It is a fairly new town, only incorporated in 1995, but has been rapidly expanding since then. It is home to Colorado’s largest shopping mall, Park Meadows.

Conveniently located along the Light Rail at Lincoln Station (the last stop south), this front range town lies within Douglas County at an elevation of 5,948 feet. The city has several large master-planned communities like Ridgegate to house its 13,364 residents as of 2020.

Schweiger Ranch – While the city of Lone Tree may be new, it comes with it an important history that residents have spent time and money preserving. Highlighting the city’s ranching history, Schweiger Ranch is a designated historic site that embodies the evolution of western ranch life. It is open for visitors on the third Saturday of the month, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Park Meadows Mall – As one of Colorado’s biggest shopping malls, Park Meadows is the ultimate destination for shopping, dining, and entertainment. With over 185 shops, restaurants, and unique Colorado-themed decor, it’s hard not to find what you’re looking for!

Bluffs Regional Park – This 2.7-mile loop trail offers some of the best scenery in the city. Hike, run, or bike to the top to take in views of the Denver skyline, the front range, and local wildlife.

Recreation

Camping – 15 minutes west you’ll find Chatfield State Park. There is a large reservoir and sweeping views of the Platte River Valley. They have plenty of amenities and 197 campsites suitable for any type of camping setup you have.

Fishing – 

  • Chatfield State Park has a large bass and trout population, as well as the occasional walleye, bluegill, carp, and crappie.
  • Cherry Creek State Park is also nearby and has two boat ramps for fishing boats to launch from.

Hiking –

  • Roxborough State Park has dramatic red sandstone formations throughout, and plenty of trails to explore only 25 minutes from town.
  • Daniel’s Park is 15 minutes south of Lone Tree and has options for a .2, 3, or 5.4-mile hike. This spot has amazing views of the Front Range.

Lone Tree Golf Club & Hotel – Perfect for a weekend getaway, this 18-hole golf course is absolutely beautiful and has all of the on-site amenities you could need. Each room has a wet bar, vaulted ceilings, and a fireplace.

Element Denver Park Meadows – If you’re looking for a longer-term stay or just want a more homey feel, this hotel is a top-tier choice. All rooms include a kitchenette and there is a dedicated business center to utilize.

Jul-Aug – Backyard Beats – A summer outdoor concert series featuring regional and nationally known bands. The location rotates around Lone Tree’s great outdoor spaces and parks.

Jul – Independence Day Celebration – Start the festivities early with a bike parade. Later in the day, join the community at the Park at Prairie Sky for a DJ dance party and food trucks, followed by a firework show to end the night.

Sep – Wag n Romp – The local waterpark at Cook Creek hosts this annual event for furry friends and their owners. Dogs will be able to freely swim and play in the open fields, and owners can peruse the many pet-specific vendors and businesses.

Oct – Schweiger Ranch Fall Festival – A full day of fall fun in early October at the historic Schweiger Ranch. There will be a pumpkin patch, hay wagon rides, live music, and even a petting zoo.

Dec – Merry Days – Get in the holiday spirit with a visit from Santa, live holiday music, and a s’mores roasting station.
