Situated on Highway 131, Toponas is a small unincorporated community of 48 residents in 2010. It’s located between Steamboat Springs and Highway 9 to the north, with Wolcott and Interstate 70 to the south.
Located at 8,284 feet of elevation in Routt County, this rural village is named for the local Toponas Rock. There’s not much in town, a general store and gas station, as well as some houses. The Toponas Post Office has been in use since 1888, with a zip code of 80479.
