Located in northwestern Colorado, Evans is a fairly well-sized plains town of 18,537 in 2010. The home rule municipality is located only a few miles south of Greeley, so it has easy access to the northern front range urban corridor.
Evans has an elevation of 4,652 feet and is situated by the South Platte River. It was founded in 1867 and incorporated in November of 1885. It’s part of Weld County, of which neighbor Greeley is the county seat. In 2021 there was an estimated 21,205 people living in town.
History
The Colorado Territorial Governor, John Evans, was the reason for the town’s naming. Prior to Greeley becoming the county seat, Evans served this role twice.
