Guide to Snowbiking in Colorado
Right off the bat, these girls above should probably be wearing a helmet, but it’s a photo opt. Like all downhill snow sports protecting your most valuable piece of equipment is highly recommended. Then after that, it’s all good fun Colorado snowbiking!
Not to be confused with snow biking, two words, which is the kind you see on TV or in the backcountry with motors, a Snowbike® has no motor and is propelled by gravity, same as your skis and snowboard.
It’s something that all levels can try out with minimal risk, so long you stay within your ability. Follow the traditional U.S. ski trail ranking system carefully, so you don’t wind up on top of something with multiple diamonds.: green, blue, black, double black; and stick to the easy ones within your skill (that’s green and blue).
Is there a different name for snowbiking with a motor?
Yes, sort of. When written as 1 word, it means without a motor, as featured on this page; Written as 2 words implies a motor; i.e. snowbiking versus snow biking, respectively.
The US trademark for our activity or sport is Snowbike and is not motorized. The motorized version is not trademarked so that version must put a space between snow and bike. Looks like “snow bike” – Roger Helenbeck of Roger’s Snowbike Rentals
