The Silver Queen Gondola, which opened in 1987, is the longest single-stage gondola in the world. It travels 2.5 miles to the top of Aspen Mountain and drops you off among hiking and biking trails, a full-service restaurant, and the live-music stage.
It takes about 15 minutes to get to the top, going up 3,267 vertical feet to the 11,200-foot summit, providing you with fantastic views of the Maroon Bells Mountains.
Seasonal Activities
Throughout the year, you can ride the Gondola to the top and participate in many activities. The world’s highest disc golf course is found atop Aspen Mountain and is known for its challenging and exciting layout. Open from May to October, this 18-hole course is free to play. Moreover, it’s also home to the Professional Disc Golf Associations’ main tournament: Kiss the Sky.
Occurring on Sundays from July – September, the Sunday Blue Grass Concert is a free event where bands play in front of the Elk Mountain Range.
Additionally, there are miles of trails for hiking and biking. Aspen was voted one of America’s 20 best mountain bike towns. With more than 300 miles of single-track to enjoy, there are plenty of options for everyone, from beginners to speed demons.
During the winter, other than the world-renowned skiing with over 75 trails of varying levels, you can ride the gondola to the top and snowshoe around Richmond Ridge. You can also eat at the Sundeck Restaurant, known for its sprawling patio and foodie-friendly dishes.
